Keke Palmer is baring her soul in the midst of familial problems.
The multi-hyphenate actress hosted the 2023 BET Soul Train Awards on Sunday and sang her recent sad breakup song “Ungorgeous” only two weeks after she was awarded a temporary restraining order against ex Darius Jackson during a custody fight.
Keke Palmer Performs Emotional Breakup Song Ungorgeous at the 2023 Soul Train Awards during Custody Battle. Palmer, 30, sang the sensitive song from her Big Boss deluxe album, which has lyrics about a love relationship who no longer makes her feel good about herself, while dressed in a white lace negligee and matching robe on a penthouse-like backdrop.
“You used to tell me I’m beautiful / Now I don’t even know no more / It’s like you’re tryna be difficult / You never used to do this before / You make me feel so ungorgeous,” she says in the chorus of the song.
Palmer performed “Ungorgeous” on her Big Boss Tour in September after releasing a TikTok preview in August and releasing it on Big Boss (Deluxe) last month. She said during her Webster Hall performance that the song was recorded “about 12 years ago” yet still applies to her life.
We dislike hardships. We don’t like life’s ups and downs, but when we do, we have a testimony “she said on stage regarding the song’s personal importance.
“For me, so much has happened since I did that song,” Palmer, who has an 8-month-old son with Jackson called Leodis “Leo” Adrellton, said during the show. I have a family. You know, I’ve gone through plenty.”
Nope star: “We want to be happy all the time and keep everything bottled up, but that’s not the case.” Every situation is like Inside Out—you must let go to go through it! I define ‘Ungorgeous’ that way. It’s an opportunity to say, ‘Hey, I’m just not feeling it,’ and share it with you guys, which means a lot because if you know how I feel, let me get a ‘Amen.'”
Palmer sought a Los Angeles domestic violence restraining order against him this month. Palmer wanted complete physical and legal custody of Leo, citing multiple instances of physical abuse, according to media reports.
A Los Angeles County judge ordered a temporary restraining order mandating Jackson to stay at least 100 yards from the actress, their child, and any childcare or education arrangements for the child after the emergency filing.
Palmer is granted temporary sole physical and legal custody of Leo, and Jackson is barred from seeing his son. A hearing is set on Dec. 5 to determine further action on the interim arrangement.
Jackson responded later that day by uploading a photo of himself holding Leo on X (formerly Twitter) from an account that has since been deleted. “I adore you, son.” He wrote “See you soon,” alongside the picture.
Several media requests for response from Palmer’s reps and lawyers have been ignored. Media contacted Jackson’s agent, who did not respond.
Jackson called her out in July for wearing a tight black bodysuit under a transparent dress to watch Usher perform at his Las Vegas residency, highlighting their issues.
“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want his wife and mother to show booty cheeks to please others & he’s called a hater in a deleted tweet,” Jackson stated. “This is my family, and this is my representation.” I have beliefs and standards. “I submit my case.”
Palmer informed the media in October that she needed to change her social media honesty.
“I’m having my own personal boundaries for what I feel like I want out there or what I want to give people the opportunity to speak on,” Palmer stated in a release.
