Public Controversy Over Blue Ivy's Hair

Jay-Z Reflects on the Public Controversy Over Blue Ivy’s Hair. In an interview that was made public on Friday, the rap mogul smiled with pleasure as he described the 11-year-old girl’s development as well as her performances during her mother’s concert tour, which came to an end earlier this month. The tour was headlined by her mother.

Jay-Z said, “I know how nervous she was, I know how terrified she was.”

He went on to say that she was excited to perform from the very beginning of the tour regardless of the circumstances, particularly to songs such as “My Power,” which appropriately praises independence and self-love.

Jay-Z said, “What makes me super proud — and I still get goosebumps seeing her walk onstage — is because Blue’s been… born into a life she didn’t ask for,” and this is something that makes the rapper extremely proud.

“Ever since she was born, she has been under close observation and in the public eye, with everyone having an opinion — even [on] a little girl, how she maintains her hair.”

He continued by saying, “So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power, and the song is called ‘My Power’… you can’t write a better script.”

Blue Ivy had to deal with racial slurs directed at her hair and hair texture when she was only a little child because of the comments that were made about her. Someone even went so far as to start a petition in 2014 demanding that the child’s famous parents “comb her hair.”

Beyoncé and Jay-Z also have twins together named Rumi and Sir Carter, who are 6 years old.

Jay-Z explained in a different part of the interview where he got the idea for Blue Ivy’s name.

The rapper said that she was supposed to be given the name Brooklyn when she was born; but, he and Beyoncé were connected to a moniker that they had given to the baby before she was even born.

When they were shown ultrasound photographs of Blue Ivy, he suggested that they would refer to the baby as a “blueberry.”

He gave an example by saying, “Like, ‘Look at the little blueberry!'”
