Tina Knowles Reveals Beyoncé Was ‘Bullied a Bit’ as a Child, Gushes Over Daughters’ Strength

Tina Knowles Reveals Beyoncé Was ‘Bullied a Bit’ as a Child, Gushes Over Daughters’ Strength. In a heartwarming video for Vogue, Tina Knowles, 70, opened up about her daughters Beyoncé and Solange, revealing intimate details of their childhood and the values she instilled in them. Shared on Instagram, the video captures the essence of a mother’s pride and the bond that has shaped these iconic women.

She was very shy, and she got bullied a bit, But the day that she stood up for someone — she didn’t stand up for herself; she stood up for them — I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”

Tina said about Beyoncé, now 42.

Beyoncé’s journey from a shy child to an international superstar is well-known, but Tina’s anecdote sheds light on the early traits of courage and empathy that have defined her career. From her beginnings with Destiny’s Child to her monumental solo success, Beyoncé’s resilience and kindness have always shone through.

Tina also shared her favorite memory of her younger daughter, Solange Knowles, 37. “Solange had people signing a petition in school while she was only in fifth grade,” Tina recalled. “She’s always been an activist.” Solange’s fearless approach to social issues and her unique artistic expression have set her apart in the music industry. Her critically acclaimed album “A Seat at the Table” and her continued advocacy for racial and social justice mirror the activist spirit she exhibited as a child.

Alongside her daughters, Tina also played a significant role in the upbringing of Kelly Rowland. Kelly, 43, lived with the Knowles family from the age of 11. “Kelly was always this kid that just tried to protect everybody,” Tina said. “I have a memory of her with her best friend Barbara and her being a mediator and just being this little peacemaker.” Tina’s influence on Kelly, who went on to achieve fame with Destiny’s Child and as a solo artist, is evident in the singer’s enduring loyalty and kindness.

Captioning the video, Tina offered valuable advice to parents: “Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities. Learn their personalities and respect the individuality. Never compare the negatives, always praise the positive differences and pay attention to the things that you can brag on about them. They love it and it encourages positive behavior.”

Tina shares Beyoncé and Solange with her ex-husband Matthew Knowles, 72, whom she was married to from 1980 to 2011. While not Kelly Rowland’s biological mother, Tina has always considered her as one of her own, especially after Kelly’s mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, passed away in 2014.

In a recent appearance on Today With Hoda & Jenna, Tina gushed about her new role as a grandmother. “It’s the best,” she said. “I mean with grandkids you don’t have the pressure of taking responsibility for how they turn out, so you get to just indulge them and let them have noisy toys that drive their parents [crazy].”

Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, have three children: Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, 6. Solange has a son, Daniel Julez, 19, with her ex-husband Daniel Smith. “All of her grandchildren are super creative,” Tina added. “They’re all super great artists, visual artists, and very smart. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but whatever they want to do, we just want to support that. I just love them to death.”

Tina Knowles’ reflections not only highlight the remarkable achievements of Beyoncé, Solange, and Kelly Rowland but also the foundational love and strength that have guided their journeys. As a mother and grandmother, Tina’s influence is a testament to the power of nurturing individuality and fostering resilience. Her story is a beautiful reminder of the impact of a loving and supportive family in shaping extraordinary lives.
