American actor Lance Reddick was among the most beloved figures in the industry, known for his roles in iconic projects such as The Wire and the John Wick franchise. Just before the theatrical release of his latest film – John Wick: Chapter 4, Reddick passed away at the age of 60, leaving his fans and colleagues in a state of shock.
According to the reports that emerged at the time, it was determined that the actor succumbed to complications caused by heart disease.
Reddick’s death certificate listed ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease as the cause, but lawyer James Hornstein says an autopsy was never performed on his client.
“The coroner statement on the death certificate is not a result of an autopsy. No autopsy was performed on Lance. To my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions,”
Hornstein said in a statement
“Lance was the most physically fit person I’ve ever known,” the attorney continued. “He exercised daily at his home gym, including extensive cardio work, and the availability of gym facilities was a contractual requirement for his work away from home.
“He ate as if a dietician was monitoring his every meal. The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle.”
Hornstein concluded his statement by noting that the “John Wick” star’s widow, Stephanie Reddick, also feels “the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”
Reddick was found dead on March 17 at his home in Studio City, Calif. He was 60 years old.
At another premiere event, franchise star Keanu Reeves honored Reddick by wearing a blue ribbon.
“He was a beautiful person, a special artist [and] a man of grace and dignity [with] such a passion for his craft,” the “Speed” star, 58, shared.
“To have had the chance to work with him over the 10 years and four films [in the franchise] is something very special to me. It f–king sucks he’s not here.”
