Houston Mother Charged with Felony after Abandoning Infant. Houston police charged 23-year-old Loretta Faye Norwood with felony child abandonment for leaving her eight-and-a-half-month-old infant outside a southwest Houston residence.
Norwood left the baby on a porch around 12:12 a.m. on March 21, court filings show. She texted the homeowner’s son 38 minutes later to get the baby. The letter arrived at 8 a.m., leaving the recipient wondering if the infant was his son.
Luckily, the homeowner found the infant in a car seat outdoors at 6 a.m. and brought him inside before calling the police. The healthy baby was placed with a foster home after a hospital examination.
According to Fort Bend County records, Norwood was out on bond for a previous robbery. She and someone else allegedly stole two iPhones at Katy Mills Mall on March 5. Norwood faces child abandonment allegations despite being free on bond.
“Moms have several choices,” CEO Dr. Bob Sanborn stated that, “the state is overworked but will care for a newborn.”
