Three individuals accused of murdering rapper Julio Foolio plead not guilty in court, facing life in prison if convicted.
Three individuals accused of killing rapper Julio Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones, have pleaded not guilty in a Hillsborough County courtroom. The suspects, Isaiah Chance, 21, Sean Gathright, 18, and Alicia Andrews, 21, entered their pleas during an arraignment hearing on Monday. All three face murder charges related to the June death of the 26-year-old rapper.
Julio Foolio, a rising star in the rap community, was in Tampa for his birthday celebration when the tragic events unfolded. According to reports, Foolio was staying at an Airbnb on June 23 but was asked to leave due to an overcrowded gathering. He then moved to a Holiday Inn near the University of South Florida, where he was allegedly ambushed and fatally shot.
Police revealed that the ambush was meticulously planned, with video surveillance showing five individuals dressed in black, armed and waiting for Jones. The footage captures the suspects opening fire on the car in which Jones was a passenger. The car attempted to flee, but the gunfire continued, resulting in the death of the rapper and injuries to three others.
“It looks like a movie,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated during a news conference in July. “But this isn’t a movie. These are people’s real lives.”
Authorities believe the killing was gang-related, with Jones’ death being part of an ongoing feud between rival gangs. The five suspects involved in the incident are said to have orchestrated the attack as an act of retaliation. While only three individuals allegedly fired the shots that killed Jones, all five are facing murder charges.

Isaiah Chance and Alicia Andrews are each charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. Sean Gathright is facing more severe charges, including two counts of premeditated first-degree murder, attempted premeditated first-degree murder, and tampering with physical evidence. The two other men involved, Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy, are also facing charges in connection to the murder. Rashad Murphy was arrested in Jacksonville but is not currently being held in a Hillsborough County jail, while Davion Murphy remains at large.
