Rapper Azealia Banks recently attended a rally at Donald Trump’s resort in Miami, Florida, to voice her support for the former president’s 2024 presidential bid.
Banks, known for her outspoken personality, has previously voiced her opinions over the phone to Trump, saying it was “freaking weird” and expressing her belief that he should return to the White House, despite previously supporting Ron DeSantis.
Footage from the event was shared on Instagram by music promoter Jake Infamous and reposted on Twitter. In a caption for a video featuring Banks, Infamous wrote, “Donald Trump invited Azealia Banks and I to speak about ‘Jobs for Hispanics,” and the video shows Banks struggling to find words to explain why she attended the rally.
The two are also seen in the background of a post on President Trump’s official Instagram account, surrounded by MAGA hats and “Never Surrender” posters. Banks, a New York native, regularly draws criticism for targeting artists like Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar on social media. She also doesn’t hide her conservative views.
She supported Trump in the 2016 presidential election but withdrew her support a few weeks before the election after the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump can be heard making lewd remarks about women.
However, after Trump’s election this year, Banks reiterated her support for Trump. “He’s my hero now,” she wrote on Facebook. “I’m thrilled.” In an interview with The Standard last year, Banks said she plans to vote for Trump again in the 2024 election. When asked about her decision to move from Los Angeles to Florida, she shared her feelings about other serious issues such as gun violence and mass destruction.
The 33-year-old said she thinks Florida is safer because “everyone carries a gun” and people “absolutely need guns.” She shared her opinion on who is more impulsive when it comes to nuclear weapons, talking about Trump. “He didn’t push it from the beginning,” she said. “You never know, maybe Biden will hit the antenna the wrong way and blow the whole thing up.”
Banks is one of the few rappers to support Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Earlier this month, Rolling Stone reported that President Trump is working with disgraced Fyre Fest organizer Billy McFarland to try to convince other rap and hip-hop artists to support him.
Now that she has publicly declared her support for Trump, many have expressed disappointment and criticized her again. “This is not a boast. This is truly disturbing,” one user wrote on X/Twitter. “It would be a moral failing to directly engage with Azealia Banks at this point. She doesn’t stand for anything.
She’s a reactionary pseudo-intellectual who talks bigoted nonsense to cause backlash and keep the embers of her fading career burning. Attention is their only currency. Ignore her,” said another. He has shown her true colors time and time again and some of you are still hyping her up as funny or so real or stupid… No, she isn’t, she is a transphobic and horrible person and you should stop inviting her to Pride events,” said another user.
Some joke that maybe she was just being paid to be there to pay off $8,000 in unpaid rent, something she recently addressed online rumors just days before the rally.
