Jalen Hurts Leads A Second Half Comeback As The Eagles Defeat The Chiefs 21-17 In A Repeat Of The Super Bowl. Jalen Hurts scored twice on the ground, including a game-winning tush-push in the fourth quarter, as the Philadelphia Eagles recovered from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 21-17 in a rematch of the Super Bowl.

The Eagles (9-1) swore all week that they were not seeking vengeance for their 38-35 defeat in February, but Nick Sirianni’s team got some.

They defeated former coach Andy Reid for the first time in five games since he was dismissed by Philadelphia and moved to Kansas City, shutting out Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs (7-3) in the second half.

For the first time, Eagles center Jason Kelce outplayed his younger brother Travis Kelce. He fumbled the ball away in the red zone in the fourth quarter, as Kansas City was looking to build a 17-14 advantage.

With fewer than two minutes remaining, the Chiefs had a chance, converting on fourth down and then benefiting from a roughing-the-passer call. But Mahomes’ wonderfully placed pass sailed straight through the hands of Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a would-be 51-yard touchdown, and the Eagles stopped Kansas City on fourth down to seal the game.

Hurts only passed for 150 yards and one interception, but he made the plays Mahomes couldn’t in the second half. D’Andre Swift, who ran for 76 yards and a touchdown, and DeVonta Smith, who grabbed six passes for 99 yards, both contributed.

It was just the seventh occasion that two Super Bowl teams faced in the regular season the following year, and the winner had won the previous four. Dallas’ most recent defeat was against Buffalo during the 1993 season.

Mahomes was limited to 177 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the end zone. The Chiefs’ Isiah Pacheco added 89 yards running, but they couldn’t overcome two red-zone errors and a slew of penalties.

Unlike in the Super Bowl, when the Eagles lost a 10-point halftime lead, the Chiefs led at the half 17-7.

It was 7-all after Hurts and Mahomes swapped first-quarter touchdown passes, and it remained tied until Mahomes connected Kelce on third down for the game-winning score with 1:45 remaining. When the Eagles got the ball back, sacks by Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis forced them to turn it over with 44 seconds left.

Plenty of time for Mahomes to pull the Chiefs within striking distance of Harrison Butker’s 43-yard field goal.

Despite their explosive offense, the Chiefs have been terrible in the second half this season, scoring a league-low 53 points before Monday night. After two fast punts to open the half, Philadelphia eventually capitalized on its superb field position, moving downfield before Hurts scored on a 10-yard run.

The Chiefs kept losing — and the Eagles continued taking advantage.

Kelce fumbled the ball away at the Philadelphia 8 early in the fourth quarter, joining penalties that wrecked their opening two drives of the second half. When the Chiefs regained possession and were forced to punt a few minutes later, Justin Watson was unable to drop the ball at the Philadelphia 1, resulting in a touchback that allowed Hurts and company some breathing space.

They went the other way for 80 yards, and Hurts’ sneak gave Philadelphia a 21-17 lead with 6:20 remaining.

In the third quarter, Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra injured his ankle. Fletcher Cox, DT, exited the game shortly following a severe collision on a tackle.

Mecole Hardman of the Kansas City Chiefs missed the game in the first quarter with a thumb injury but returned.
