Damar Hamlin has launched a scholarship program In Cincinnati To thank the ten People who saved his life. Hamlin’s nonprofit, Chasing M’s, will provide ten students from underprivileged neighborhoods in the region each of the next three years the opportunity to further their education with a $1,000 scholarship.
The names of the ten first responders, nurses, and physicians who treated Hamlin when he went into cardiac arrest and was resurrected on the field during a game in Cincinnati on January 2 will be engraved on each of the 10 individual scholarships that will be awarded.
The news comes at the same time as the Bills’ first game back in Cincinnati, which will occur on Sunday night against the Bengals.
Hamlin and the Bills came into town a day earlier than scheduled. At a meal with the 10 lifesavers, the player personally announced the scholarship program that the team would be participating in.
Damar Hamlin has launched a scholarship program In Cincinnati To thank the ten People who saved his life. “I’m humbled by the opportunity to set up a scholarship program to honor this team of professionals — my Cincinnati heroes — who helped save my life,” Hamlin said in a statement that was issued.
“Today, as I look at honoring these Cincinnati heroes and lifting young people who are trying to find their way, I’m reminded of the enormous blessing I’ve been given through my charity and the generosity of people worldwide.”
Hamlin was awarded a scholarship that paid for him to attend Central Catholic High School when he was growing up in the suburb of McKees Rocks, which is located in the greater Pittsburgh area. Later, he participated in college football at the University of Pittsburgh before being selected by the Bills in the 2021 draft.
Even though Hamlin created his foundation when he was still in college to help young people in the community, Chasing M’s did not receive donations totaling more than $9 million until after Hamlin’s accident and subsequent rehabilitation.
Since then, he has been making use of his foundation to promote CPR training as well as the distribution of automated external defibrillators to community sports groups.
Hamlin, now 25 years old, got his career back on track in August by making it into the Bills squad. It is just the first game of the season that he has participated in, and it is not anticipated that he will play on Sunday night since Hamlin is now Buffalo’s fifth and last safety on the depth chart.
