Woman Charged with Murder in Stepfather’s Shooting Death: HPD. In the early hours of Tuesday, Darneisha Hall, 34, shot and killed Jorish Dwight Sherman, 66, in the face at a senior living apartment complex on Antoine Drive in northwest Houston.
According to Harris County Assistant District Attorney Wesley Stafford, “She presented a firearm and shot him in the face as he opened the door.”

Tucker Graves, Hall’s attorney, said she sought shelter in her stepfather’s residence because she was homeless.
Sherman’s daughter heard them fighting before the gunshots.
Police quickly found Hall at a nearby bus station after the incident.
Assistant District Attorney Stafford said, ” After her identification, they located a 9-millimeter handgun with matching shot casings.”
Court records reveal Hall has a significant criminal history dating back to 2008.
On Thursday, the judge set Hall’s bond at $400,000 for her handgun convictions.
Stafford explained the high bond: “I think it’s appropriate given her criminal history—she was convicted of a felon in possession of a weapon and discovered with another.”
Tucker Graves, Hall’s attorney, plans to obtain a mental health evaluation for his client due to her long-term mental health difficulties and MHMRA treatment.
If Hall posts bond, she will be under 24-hour home arrest and a GPS ankle monitor to comply with the law.
Hall is due back in court on May 7 to face charges and other legal actions.
