Wiz Khalifa Reportedly Charged with Illegal Drug Possession in Romania. Romanian authorities have charged US rapper Wiz Khalifa with narcotics possession. Performance at “Beach, Please!” event in Costinesti, a beach community, led to prosecution. During his show, prosecutors say the rapper used cannabis.
When Khalifa headlined the Black Sea event early Sunday, the incident occurred. Romanian officials responded quickly. Officials remove the rapper from the venue, according to social media videos.
Sunday saw the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors issue a statement. They said Khalifa had around 18 grammes of cannabis and smoked a homemade cigarette during his performance.
“During a performance at a music festival held in the resort of Costinesti, the accused was found to have possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis and to have consumed (on stage) another quantity in the form of a handmade cigarette,” Romanian anti-organised crime prosecutors (DIICOT) said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the accused was determined to have possessed more than 18 grammes of cannabis and consumed another amount on stage in the form of a handcrafted cigarette during a music event in Costinesti.
Romania classifies cannabis as a “risk drug” and can imprison you for ten years.
A source told AFP that Wiz Khalifa and others were questioned early Sunday. Charges were filed but Khalifa was not arrested. As of now, prosecutors are investigating the event.
In his lyrics, Wiz Khalifa often endorses marijuana. In the past, he has publicly backed and invested in US cannabis businesses. Like Snoop Dogg, Seth Rogen, and Mike Tyson, Khalifa endorses or funds cannabis enterprises.
Drug regulations and celebrity behaviour are further complicated by the Romanian incident. The Khalifa case shows the legal risks of violating Romanian drug possession legislation.
Another dispute erupted in Romanian music this month. Safety concerns due to demonstrations forced Nicki Minaj to cancel her Bucharest Saga Festival performance. One day after her performance, accountants planned a demonstration against Romanian fiscal law revisions. The demonstration ended peacefully.
Wiz Khalifa’s situation illustrates the difficulties foreign artists confront in drug-controlled countries. Cannabis legalisation varies by location, continuing the worldwide debate. Cannabis is lawful in some countries and jurisdictions but illegal in others.
As the investigation proceeds, Khalifa’s fate is unknown. The event reminds prominent figures to study and follow local rules, especially those under scrutiny.
How Wiz Khalifa handles this will be watched by fans and the music business. His case may affect artists’ behaviour in drug-restricted countries. In Romania, Khalifa is under investigation, underscoring the global cannabis debate.
