Will Smith to Present at Grammys Three Years After Infamous Chris Rock Oscars Slap

Will Smith is set to make a highly anticipated return to a major awards ceremony, with plans to appear as a presenter at the 2025 Grammy Awards this Sunday. This marks a significant moment in his career, coming three years after his controversial altercation with comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The 56-year-old actor, who has won four Grammy Awards in the past, has largely avoided attending high-profile industry events since the infamous Oscars slap. However, he has been slowly re-emerging into the public eye with select appearances. His participation in the upcoming Grammys represents one of his most notable awards show engagements since the incident that shook Hollywood.

Smith will take the stage to introduce a special tribute honoring Quincy Jones, the legendary music producer and executive who played a pivotal role in shaping Smith’s career.

Jones served as the executive producer of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the hit sitcom that launched Smith into superstardom.

This year’s Grammy presenter lineup is packed with major stars, including Victoria Monét, Cardi B, and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Additionally, industry icons like Gloria Estefan, Olivia Rodrigo, Queen Latifah, and SZA will take on presenting duties. The ceremony will also feature performances from nominees such as Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, and Raye, along with musical sets from Billie Eilish, Shakira, and Charli XCX.

Smith’s absence from awards shows traces back to March 27, 2022, at the 94th Academy Awards. During the live broadcast, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, referencing her struggle with alopecia. In response, Smith walked onstage and slapped Rock, shocking the audience. Later that night, he won Best Actor for King Richard but did not apologize until the following day.
