Wendy Williams is making a determined effort to regain control of her life by enlisting high profile attorney Joe Tacopina, known for defending A$AP Rocky in his legal battles.
Tacopina revealed during an appearance on the “2 Angry Men” podcast that the former talk show host had reached out to him, seeking legal representation to terminate the court appointed guardianship that has controlled her affairs for the past two years.
The seasoned lawyer expressed deep concern after watching the Tubi documentary “Saving Wendy,” which shed light on Williams’ struggles under the guardianship. Tacopina did not hold back in his criticism, calling the situation “a true injustice.” He further emphasized the severity of her circumstances, stating, “Murderers have more freedom than Wendy”.
Tacopina’s legal expertise played a crucial role in A$AP Rocky’s Hollywood assault case where the rapper was acquitted of charges related to an altercation with former associate A$AP Relli. The case garnered significant public attention and while some jurors remained skeptical of Rocky’s “prop gun” explanation, they ultimately ruled in his favor. Reflecting on the case an anonymous juror shared, “Everybody was really focused on delivering justice. We took our time, reviewed all the evidence carefully, and made the best decision based on the instructions given to us.”
Now, Wendy Williams hopes Tacopina’s legal prowess can secure a similar victory for her. In January, she spoke publicly for the first time since the release of the controversial Lifetime documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?” During an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” she described her court-mandated guardianship as a form of imprisonment and directly criticized her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey. Morrissey has previously argued that Williams is “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated.”
Williams’ case has sparked widespread debate about the ethics of guardianship and the rights of individuals to maintain autonomy over their lives. With Tacopina now potentially joining her fight, she is taking a decisive step toward reclaiming her freedom and financial independence.
