Wendy Williams Fans React To Troubling Scenes From New Lifetime Docuseries.Earlier this month (February 22), it was announced that the media celebrity had dementia and aphasia. The New Jersey native has been dealing with declining mental health, poor memory, communication difficulties, and drinking for some years.
Fans have been discussing on social media whether the series, which contains footage from some painful times in Williams’ life, should exist.
One person commented, “There shouldn’t be any cameras in front of her at this stage. She needs family, care, support, and healing. This lady has gone through a lot and is still going through it, including losing her mother, her marriage failing, and her health difficulties [heartbroken emoji].
Another person mentioned a moment from the program in their remark, writing: “I thought this #Lifetime docuseries was about her making a comeback? A highlight reel for her legacy? A return to that fun/messy host – instead, Wendy’s on repeat, utterly intoxicated and decaying before our eyes? Something is not right with this show. #WhereIsWendyWilliams”
Another commenter said, “To be honest, the #WhereIsWendyWilliams documentary should never have occurred. It seems to be simply another method to profit off her. Why are we seeing this lady at her lowest? Why?”
A fourth commenter was even more vehement, demanding punishment from whoever approved the broadcast.
“I want to know who approved this documentary and profited from it. That individual should be brought to the bowels of hell. #WhereIsWendyWilliams,” they added.
In a post headlined Where Is Wendy Williams? Viewers responded to many sequences from the broadcast.
One commenter wrote: “I understand that we don’t know Wendy. But knowing Wendy, you know she wouldn’t want us to see her that way. #WhereIsWendyWilliams”
Before the film’s premiere, PEOPLE contacted members of her family, including sister Wanda Finnie and niece Alex Finnie, to explore her present situation in a story published soon before the series aired.
“I chatted with her yesterday, and we communicate daily when she contacts me. “She is, from what I understand, in a wellness, healing environment,” Wanda said of her sister, whose financial and medical choices are now in the hands of her court-appointed legal guardian.
“We can’t reach her, but she can reach out to us.” And she is going through an emotional recovery process. “She is not the person you see in this film.”
Alex said: “I’m proud of my aunt for taking control of her story because she’s always been such a public figure and an open book, and we’ve all seen photos of her spiraling over the past several months if not years.
