A heated exchange unfolded in Washington state as Newcastle Mayor Robert Clark confronted an LGBTQ+ activist over a complaint about the city flying the POW/MIA flag but not the Pride flag. The confrontation took place at a public hearing where local citizens voiced concerns over last year’s city council decision to reject a request to raise the Pride flag.

The activist stood before the council and accused Clark of using the veteran’s flag as a way to avoid flying the Pride flag. For more updates check our Youtube channel.

“There are 82,000 Americans registered as POWs and MIAs, but there’s 20 million minimum LGBTQ members,” the activist said, calling the situation “disgusting.”

Clark immediately pushed back, strongly defending the city’s decision. “It’s not common that I respond to public comment, but I will not sit here and have somebody tell me that veterans are a political stunt. How dare you,” he said.

Clark went on to emphasize the sacrifices made by service members, stating that fallen soldiers gave their lives to protect freedoms, including the right to fly the Pride flag. The mayor also noted that he tolerated previous criticisms but drew the line at what he viewed as disrespect toward veterans.

The controversy began when the city council voted against flying the Pride flag, arguing that government buildings should remain neutral on political and social issues. Clark previously warned that allowing the Pride flag could open the door for other groups to demand flag representation, including controversial organizations.

The activist’s remarks and Clark’s response have sparked broader debate about which flags should be displayed on government property. While the Pride flag has gained support in many cities, Clark and his allies maintain that the American flag alone represents all citizens. The issue remains a divisive topic within the community.
