President Donald Trump toured the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Monday and was quick to voice his disappointment with its state. The visit marked his first since installing himself as chairman of the board earlier this year. He criticized the venue’s structure, maintenance, and financial inefficiencies.

Trump told reporters that the Kennedy Center is in “tremendous disrepair” and blamed mismanagement for its condition. He said the building has “tremendous potential” but needs significant improvements. He also pointed out structural flaws, including underground rooms he deemed a “waste of money.”

“This represents a very important part of D.C., and actually our country, and I think it’s important to make sure that our country is in good shape and is represented well,” Trump said.

Trump also took issue with the high costs associated with events. He cited an example of singer Lee Greenwood wanting to perform at a board meeting but being charged $30,000 just to “move a piano” and set up the stage. He said these expenses reflect the larger issue of financial waste in the country.

The Kennedy Center underwent a $250 million renovation in 2019. Despite this, Trump said the building still requires funding for further improvements. He announced plans to ask Congress for money to “save the structure.”

Trump’s focus on the Kennedy Center aligns with his broader initiative to overhaul Washington, D.C. He has prioritized cleaning up the city by addressing crime, removing homeless encampments, and eliminating Black Lives Matter Plaza.

The president also mentioned upcoming performances, including Les Misérables, and promised that the quality of shows at the venue will improve over time.

Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR have finally dropped their highly anticipated joint album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, on February 14, 2025. The album, packed with 21 tracks, highlights the dynamic creative chemistry between the two OVO artists.
