When someone assaults your sibling in front of millions on live television, it’s safe to say you probably won’t be praising that person anytime soon if ever. That’s exactly how Tony Rock, comedian and younger brother of Chris Rock, feels about Will Smith. So it came as no surprise when Tony recently trashed Smith’s latest music release, Based On A True Story, labeling the album as “trash.”
TMZ recently caught up with Tony Rock to get his thoughts on the March release. The 50-year-old didn’t hold back.
“Will Smith has an album out and it’s a piece of sht,” Tony said. “And he addresses the Oscars on it.” Tony was referring to the infamous 2022 Oscars moment when Will Smith slapped his brother Chris Rock on stage.
Interestingly, Tony admitted he hasn’t listened to the album and has no intentions of doing so. His frustration comes more from the way Smith is allegedly using the Oscars incident as a marketing tool to revive interest in his music career. “Everybody keeps telling me to stop talking about [the slap],” Tony said. “But then he fking puts it on a song. So that gives me leeway to talk about it again.”
Tony added, “This album is probably shtty as fk. I haven’t heard anything about it except, ‘Oh, he talks about your brother.’ If that’s the main selling point, that’s not a good sign.”
Will Smith does indeed touch on the Oscars controversy on multiple tracks. On the song “Int. Barbershop – Day,” he raps, “I heard he down bad, I heard he won the Oscar, but he had to give it back And you know they only made him do that sht because he’s Black.”
Clearly, the wounds from that night still haven’t healed at least not in the Rock family.
