Tisha Campbell Triumphs Over Rare Lung Disorder Post-Divorce: A Journey to Improved Health

Tisha Campbell Triumphs Over Rare Lung Disorder Post-Divorce: A Journey to Improved Health. Renowned actress Tisha Campbell, best known for her iconic role in “Martin,” has opened up about her health journey, revealing she has been in remission from sarcoidosis, a rare and inflammatory disease, for four years. This announcement marks a significant milestone in her life, highlighting her resilience and determination to overcome health challenges.

In an interview with Shanti Das on the mibo show, Campbell shared the encouraging news that her battle with sarcoidosis, an illness that causes the immune system to overreact and form clusters of inflamed tissue known as granulomas, is finally under control.

“I have been in remission for four years now,” Campbell proudly stated. “They can’t find it at the base of my brain at all.”

Her journey with sarcoidosis began over two decades ago, a diagnosis that significantly impacted her life and well-being.

Campbell’s struggle with sarcoidosis became public in 2011, when she disclosed to media that she had been dealing with the disease for about ten years. Sarcoidosis can affect various organs in the body, and for Campbell, it brought about severe anxiety and frequent hospital visits.

“Every cold took me to the hospital,” she recalled. The fear of becoming severely ill was a constant shadow over her, exacerbated by the threat of COVID-19. “I was so scared to get Covid because I thought, ‘If I get Covid, I’m gonna die,'”

Campbell admitted, reflecting the heightened vulnerability she felt due to her condition.

However, a significant turning point in Campbell’s health journey coincided with a major personal change—her divorce from actor Duane Martin. After 22 years of marriage, Campbell filed for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in 2020. Campbell noted a remarkable improvement in her health post-divorce, suggesting a strong connection between her physical well-being and emotional state. “I have not been sick ever since I got a divorce,” she quipped, underscoring the detrimental impact of stress on her health. “Stress is a killer,” she emphasized. “And it’s connected to your body.”

Campbell’s reflections on her health highlight the intricate relationship between mental and physical health. “I am here to say that I am so proud of where I am in my mental health and my physical health now,” she shared. Understanding the importance of holistic health, Campbell stressed the need for comprehensive self-care, particularly for those with chronic illnesses. “Whether you have any type of disorder, it’s important to understand you got to do everything that’s right,” she advised.

Sarcoidosis is more common among Black women, who are three times more likely to be diagnosed with the disease compared to White women, according to the American Lung Association. Campbell’s journey not only sheds light on the challenges faced by those with sarcoidosis but also serves as an inspiration for others battling chronic illnesses. Her story is a testament to the power of resilience, self-awareness, and the critical importance of managing stress for overall health.

Tisha Campbell’s candid revelations about her health journey offer a powerful message of hope and resilience. As she continues to thrive, both personally and professionally, Campbell’s story stands as a beacon of strength for many, illustrating that with perseverance and the right support, it is possible to overcome even the most daunting health challenges.
