Tina Knowles, mother of global superstar Beyoncé, has always been a staunch defender of her family, but even she admits that navigating social media can be challenging. Recently, Tina opened up about balancing her role as a protector of her children with the unpredictable nature of online platforms, where a simple mistake can lead to unintended controversy.
Earlier this week, Knowles took to social media to address criticism surrounding Beyoncé’s captivating Christmas Day NFL halftime performance. The 12-minute set, featuring songs from Beyoncé’s acclaimed Cowboy Carter album, sparked some backlash from viewers. Tina didn’t hold back, calling out those who chose to spend their holiday criticizing the performance. “It is mind-boggling to me,” she wrote, “that you would take your precious Christmas day to watch someone you claim to hate just so you can talk negatively about them later.”
The challenges of being a public figure’s parent don’t stop there. During an appearance on The Run-Through With Vogue podcast, Knowles discussed a recent incident where she appeared to like a controversial post accusing her son-in-law, Jay-Z, and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault. Both men have denied the allegations, with Jay-Z labeling the claims as a “blackmail attempt.” While Knowles didn’t directly address the allegations, she clarified that her apparent endorsement of the post was unintentional.“At my age, social media can be a tricky thing,” the 70-year-old matriarch admitted.
“I’ve accidentally liked posts that were negative about my own kids. I’ll see a picture, think it’s cute, and tap the like button without realizing the context.”
When fans pointed out the mistake, Tina quickly removed the like, later explaining to her followers that her account had been hacked. She assured them, “As you all know, I do not play about my family.”
Tina also shared a lighthearted piece of advice from Jay-Z. “He always tells me, ‘If you’re going to comment on something, at least spellcheck first!’” she laughed. Despite her son-in-law’s helpful tips, Tina admits she often doesn’t have time to double-check her posts.
For Tina, her family and heritage remain her top priorities. While social media may sometimes complicate things, her unwavering commitment to protecting her loved ones and celebrating her roots shines through in everything she does.
