The “Girls Trip” actress entered a not-guilty plea to her DUI charges from Thanksgiving weekend.
Tiffany Haddish has been one of Hollywood’s most divisive actors ever since she made her big-screen debut in “Girls Trip.” While some viewers find her exaggerated personality endearing, others don’t.
Her most recent on-screen roles haven’t exactly been hits, and she was subsequently cleared of all charges related to child sex assault.
The “Night School” actress’s reported drinking habits have led to many run-ins with the authorities, further complicating her already chaotic career.
Haddish was charged with two misdemeanors, “driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving with a.08% blood alcohol content,” after being nabbed for DUI during Thanksgiving weekend.
Deadline claims that she has entered a not-guilty plea to both accusations via her attorney. A preliminary hearing for the actress/comedian is now set for February 14.
As the media has already reported, Haddish’s vehicle was pulled over on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, California, on November 24. When the police saw her “slumped over the wheel and the car was running,” they detained her “for suspicion of driving under the influence.”
After being freed later that day, she gave a stand-up performance at Long Beach’s The Laugh Factory. “I had prayed to God to send me a man with a job, career, preferably in a uniform, and I answered my prayers,” she said, referring to the event even while she was on stage.
Of course, comedians making light of their legal issues are nothing new. But it’s not humorous when you put everyone at risk when you drive under the influence; you’re not just jeopardizing yourself. You have far too many ridesharing choices available to you to be operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Tiffany Haddish has to face this harsh reality: Even while she could still be able to pursue her comedic career due to her popularity, Black actors already face discrimination in the workplace. Why create more barriers?
There are only so many opportunities available, and some Black performers are already being fired due to their dysfunctional home life. Simply ask Jonathan Majors, a former Marvel star.
Consequently, she doesn’t seem to have any other major film or television projects in development, save from the much-discussed “Girls Trip” sequel.
It’s up to her to choose between being famous for her roles in movies like “The Card Counter” and this foolishness.
