Tiffany Haddish Opens Up About Embracing Celibacy: "I Am the Prize"

Tiffany Haddish Opens Up About Embracing Celibacy: “I Am the Prize”. Tiffany Haddish, the vibrant and candid comedian known for her infectious humor and unfiltered personality, is making headlines once again. This time, the star is shedding light on her personal journey towards celibacy and sobriety, revealing intimate details about her decision and its impact on her life.

In a recent episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Haddish, 44, shared that she has been celibate since October 2023. When asked about her dating life, she boldly proclaimed,

“I just don’t wanna lay down with nobody, just anybody.”

The Girls Trip star explained that she views herself as the prize and believes that potential partners need to qualify themselves before she considers intimacy.

“I mean, I love going to free dinners. I’ll go on free dinner dates, I mean, not free dinner dates, but like, yeah, it’s free for me,” she joked, highlighting her humorous approach to the topic.

Celibacy is a personal choice to abstain from sexual activity. It can be practiced for various reasons, including religious beliefs, personal values, or as a means of self-discovery and self-discipline.

Haddish attributes her ability to maintain celibacy to frequent exercise, stating that it helps her release any sexual frustrations. This decision, she revealed, came hand in hand with her choice to quit alcohol after a DUI arrest in November 2023, her second such incident.

“They went together,” she said, referring to her decision to eliminate both sex and alcohol from her life. “With alcohol, my mind would just be like, ‘You’re horny, let’s just do it.’ Now, I be like, ‘Nah, nope.'”

The comedian also emphasized the importance of raising her dating standards, explaining that she has learned the hard way about the significance of being selective in her relationships. “What I’ve learned is when you’re laying down with people that’s not really as ambitious as you are or comfortable in their skin or confident with who they are, it becomes a problem,” she shared.

Haddish’s openness about her personal life reflects her larger journey of growth and self-discovery. From her early days performing stand-up comedy to her breakout role in Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish has captivated audiences with her authenticity and humor.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Haddish faced numerous challenges on her path to success, including homelessness and a tumultuous family life. However, her resilience and determination propelled her forward, leading to opportunities in film, television, and stand-up comedy.

In 2017, Haddish’s star rose to new heights with her breakout role as Dina in the hit comedy film Girls Trip, alongside Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall. Her performance garnered widespread acclaim and earned her the MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Comedic Performance.

Since then, Haddish has continued to make waves in the entertainment industry, starring in films such as Night School, The Kitchen, and Like a Boss. She has also ventured into producing and writing, further solidifying her status as a multifaceted talent.

Beyond her work on screen, Haddish is known for her philanthropic efforts and commitment to empowering others. She has been outspoken about her experiences with homelessness and has used her platform to advocate for change within her community.

As Tiffany Haddish continues to evolve personally and professionally, her candidness and authenticity remain central to her identity. Whether she’s making audiences laugh on stage or sharing her personal journey, Haddish’s unapologetic approach to life serves as an inspiration to many.
