Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute B. Egede has strongly criticized a planned visit by U.S. officials, calling it “highly aggressive” and warning that it could increase tensions between Greenland and Washington.
The delegation includes Second Lady Usha Vance and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. According to the White House, the purpose of the visit is to celebrate Greenlandic culture and attend the national dogsled race. However, Egede sees it as an effort to assert U.S. influence over the island.

“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us,” Egede told local media. “His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission — and the pressure will increase.”

The controversy stems from President Donald Trump’s long-standing interest in acquiring Greenland. Trump has previously suggested the U.S. could take control of the Danish territory, citing its strategic importance and vast mineral resources. For more updates check our Youtube channel.

Greenland’s political landscape is shifting, with Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the likely next leader, also criticizing the visit. “The fact that the Americans know very well that we are still in a negotiating situation and that the municipal elections have not yet concluded, they still capitalize on the moment to come to Greenland, once again, which shows a lack of respect for the Greenlandic population,” Nielsen said.

The White House insists that Vance’s visit is purely cultural, but many Greenlanders remain skeptical. A recent poll showed that 85% of Greenlanders oppose becoming part of the U.S., with nearly half viewing Trump’s interest as a threat.

As the U.S., Russia, and China continue to vie for influence in the Arctic, Greenland’s leaders remain firm in their stance against any American takeover, even as they explore economic partnerships with foreign nations.
