Dallas Police: Teen Suspect in Undercover Officer’s Shooting is a Documented Gang Member. The Dallas Police Department released more information and footage about a pursuit that ended with an officer being shot last week.
Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia said the incident occurred early Thursday morning as undercover investigators were following a stolen blue Camaro that was allegedly driving recklessly and eating donuts.
Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. claimed “burglary and motor vehicle theft are persistent problems in our community.” “I am encouraged that our detectives were quickly able to make arrests and hopefully bring some comfort to the victims of these crimes.”
As officers followed the Camaro, the occupants noticed them and turned to line with the police vehicle.
Chief Garcia said, “The blue Camaro driver hit the officer’s car twice with five rounds. One round entered the driver’s door and injured the officer’s hip.”
The Camaro fled after authorities tried to stop it on East Kiest Boulevard.
A 10-minute chase with police helicopters and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office ended at an apartment complex off Chesterfield.
Three of the six Camaro passengers fled, but two teens were arrested.
Driver Jaheart Nickelberry, 17, is accused with aggravated assault and other felonies, while a 15-year-old girl is charged with avoiding arrest.
Chief Garcia noted that Nickelberry is a gang member and may face many charges for the event.
A third adolescent shooter is still being sought by police.
