Six-time NBA All-Star Super Sonics legend Shawn Kemp,53, has been booked for a drive-by shooting in Pierce County Jail in Washington on Wednesday. The star was booked into prison an hour after the shooting.
The Tacoma Police Department issued a statement on social media, saying: “At 1:58 pm, an altercation between the occupants of 2 cars led to shots being fired at a parking lot in the 4500 blk of S. Steele St. One car fled. No injuries were reported. A gun was recovered. A 53-year-old male was booked for Drive-By Shooting. The investigation is ongoing.”
No injuries were reported. According to the county record, Kemp was booked at 5:58 p.m. Pacific time and charged with a felony. The NBA star remains in custody. As per the Washington law, a drive-by shooting, which is listed as a Class B felony, carried a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Kemp spent 8 years at the SuperSonics and also made the All-Star team as a member of the Cavaliers and Trail Blazers during an illustrious career spanning from 1900 to 2004.
Mr. Kemp was arrested in 2006 for marijuana possession in Houston, Texas.
