In a shocking moment on The View, co-host Sunny Hostin called out Democratic lawmakers for not walking out during President Trump’s address to Congress. She criticized their lack of solidarity after Rep. Al Green was removed from the chamber for protesting Trump’s stance on Medicaid.
Hostin expressed her frustration on Wednesday’s episode, saying, “I expected the rest of his Democratic caucus, the rest of his colleagues, to walk out with him.”
She argued that staying silent in moments like these weakens their stance against Trump’s policies.
The controversy began when House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered Green’s removal after the congressman raised his cane and shouted at the president. Instead of leaving in protest, Democrats remained seated, a decision that Hostin said was a failure to stand together.
She urged Democrats to stop playing by the rules, claiming that their opponents had already abandoned traditional political norms. “You can’t play by the rules with a party that has thrown away the rule book,” she added. For more updates check our Youtube channel.
While some Democrats did hold up signs and paddles in protest, others, including co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, felt their actions were ineffective. She argued that Rep. Elissa Slotkin delivered a stronger rebuttal to Trump’s speech, but the chaotic protests on the floor were not a winning strategy.
The incident has divided opinions within the Democratic Party and beyond. Some agree with Hostin that lawmakers should have staged a walkout, while others believe that dramatic protests would have backfired politically. Either way, her comments have reignited debate over how Democrats should respond to Trump’s presidency.
