In a shocking revelation, stranded astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore has expressed belief in Elon Musk’s claim that President Joe Biden refused to conduct a rescue mission for him and fellow astronaut Suni Williams.
Wilmore and Williams launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June 2024 for an eight-day mission. However, due to technical failures, NASA deemed the spacecraft unsafe for return, leaving the astronauts stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) for months.
Elon Musk told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that Biden declined to take action to bring the astronauts home, calling it a politically motivated decision.
Wilmore, speaking from orbit, backed Musk’s words, stating, “I can only say that Mr. Musk, what he says, is absolutely factual … I believe him.”
Despite his support for Musk’s statement, Wilmore admitted that he was not aware of any discussions regarding the mission. “We have no information on that, though, whatsoever,” he added.
As the controversy continues, SpaceX is now leading the rescue effort. NASA has confirmed that a SpaceX Dragon capsule is scheduled to launch Wednesday to retrieve Wilmore and Williams.
President Donald Trump also weighed in, promising to bring the astronauts home. He accused Biden of neglecting their safety, stating, “The most incompetent president in our history has allowed that to happen to you, but this president won’t let that happen.”
With the rescue mission now underway, questions remain about why it took so long and whether politics played a role in delaying the astronauts’ return.
