Simone Biles may be the most decorated gymnast of all time, but she has another title in mind for her future: mom. The 27-year-old gymnast, who secured her legendary status with a stellar performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, recently revealed her hopes to expand her family with husband Jonathan Owens.
“Yes, me and Jonathan always talk about kids,“
Biles shared with Hoda Kotb on Today, August 6. “He would have had them yesterday if he could have. Obviously, we both have goals that we want to achieve before we start a family, but yes, that’s definitely in our future.”
Biles and Owens, a player for the Chicago Bears, tied the knot in 2023 after meeting on a dating app. Despite the demands of their careers, they make it a point to support each other. Owens even secured special permission to leave his training camp to cheer on his wife during the Paris Olympics.
“He was so excited,” Biles gushed. “He absolutely loved that and, obviously, he loved going to see me compete. He was still keeping score. It meant the world to him because he’s seen the amount of hours I’ve put in, so to actually see it in person, he was like, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’”
Their relationship, however, hasn’t been without challenges. Recently, Jonathan faced backlash for wearing one of Simone’s gold medals, which Team USA secured in the team final competition. Simone quickly defended her husband, addressing the criticism under a TikTok video that had slammed him.
“Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. So don’t ever make assumptions,”
Simone didn’t hold back her frustration, adding, “Like y’all are so…miserable. Leave us alone.” Her candid response highlights the scrutiny she often faces, even as she celebrates her achievements.
In April, during an appearance on the Pivot podcast, Biles opened up about the toll such negativity can take, especially when it involves her loved ones. She admitted that criticism directed at Jonathan had deeply affected her. “I thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings,” she shared. “One night I broke down and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is, and if anybody’s met him, you know he’s the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.’”
The Paris Olympics marked Biles’ third Olympic Games. Along with her teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera, Biles brought home a team gold medal for the U.S. She also won gold in the individual all-around and the vault, and a silver medal in the individual floor routine, bringing her total Olympic medal count to 11.
Despite her immense success, the 27-year-old gymnast isn’t ready to retire just yet. “You never say never. The next Olympics is on home turf, so you just never know,” Biles hinted at the possibility of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. “I’m just gonna relax and see where life takes me.”
Simone Biles’ journey continues to inspire many. Her ability to balance her personal life, public scrutiny, and professional achievements showcases her resilience and strength. As she looks forward to new milestones, both on and off the mat, fans worldwide eagerly await what’s next for this incredible athlete and future mom.
