Shanquella Robinson, 25, took a trip with her friends to the town of Cabo in Mexico from her hometown in North Carolina where she lost her life. The case remains unresolved.
Her friends later told her mother that Shanquella lost her life due to alcohol poisoning. They left her body in Mexico. Later video footage from the hotel where the group was staying emerged, which showed Shanquella getting brutally beaten by one member of the group.
According to reports, prosecutors from the Department of Justice say they do not have enough evidence to bring charges against anyone.
According to the Charlotte Observer, friends, family, and community activists will gather at the Beatties Ford Road to demand justice for Shanquella. The activists demand that one of the suspects in the alleged murder be extradited to the United States and criminal charges be pursued.
Mario Black, founder of the Million Youth March will lead the gathering. “She was a part of our community, and her life mattered. We all should be just as angry with this as we are when we have protests and when a white officer kills a Black individual,” Black Said.
“Join the fight to keep her name alive. I encourage everybody to use the [hashtag] ‘Justice for Shanquella Robinson’ on social media. Let’s keep it trending. Let’s keep it going.”
