Serena Williams has been seen everywhere lately, from red-carpet events to fashion shows, but her husband, Alexis Ohanian, has been noticeably absent.
The Reddit co-founder hasn’t appeared in her social media posts for almost a year, leading to speculation about their relationship. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old tennis legend has been enjoying Europe, sharing photos on Instagram with her sisters, Venus Williams and Lyndrea Price, and their mother Oracene, but not with her husband. The last picture with Ohanian was posted in August 2023.
Adding to the rumors, Serena hasn’t been wearing her wedding ring and didn’t post about Father’s Day. Ohanian, who usually shares moments of fatherhood and public appearances, has also rarely featured his wife.
Despite the growing rumors of a potential divorce, Ohanian posted a photo of the couple on July 5. They were dining out and snapped a selfie, with Serena smiling and leaning in towards Ohanian, who also smiled with his wedding band visible. He captioned the photo simply with “GM.”
A follower commented on Instagram, “For those who dare to doubt! Love this photo,” while another wrote, “Shade to the rumors.” Both Serena and Ohanian have been in France recently for business and leisure. Ohanian attended the Cannes Lions Festival, and Serena made several appearances at Paris Fashion Week.
Although Ohanian has shared numerous posts about spending time with their daughters, Olympia and Adira, he has shared little about Serena.
One observer noted, “I didn’t hear any rumors but if you go on her page she has no pics of him anymore and she’s not following him. But also this pic could be old.” Another commented, “Been hearing lots of rumors Serena’s marriage isn’t going so great right now. She wouldn’t be surprised about a divorce announcement at some point. She’s escaped being ‘marked’ for quite some time, maybe her luck is finally running out.”
In their defense, another person tweeted, “@serenawilliams those forecasting doom and speculating about Serena’s marriage, I wish them a bad summer! The couple will not be the first to divorce, even if that is the case. By first-world standards, they’ve been together very long so stop the bad-mouthing and hating!”
Serena and Ohanian have been together since 2015, with their first date in Paris after she won the Australian Open. They announced their first pregnancy at the Met Gala in May 2017, just months after getting engaged. They married in November 2017, two months after Olympia was born.
Ohanian has often been her date for red carpet events over the past decade, but he wasn’t at this year’s Met Gala or the premiere of her upcoming docuseries, “In the Arena: Serena Williams.”
