Serena Williams has finally shared how she ended up being part of Kendrick Lamar’s electrifying Super Bowl Halftime Show. Reflecting on the experience, she posted a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram on Tuesday, giving fans an inside look at her preparation for the event. The video features clips of her practicing dance moves, getting her makeup done, and soaking in the moment before taking the stage.

In her caption, Williams revealed that Lamar and his team had reached out with a special request.

“When @kendricklamar and team called and were like, ‘We’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal.’ I’m like, Super Bowl? Are you serious?

When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a Super Bowl? (Never) let’s do it! I knew my winning dance after the @olympics would pay off one day,” she wrote.  For more updates check our Youtube channel.

Her iconic Crip Walk celebration at the 2012 London Olympics, which sparked debate at the time, has now come full circle, earning her a spot on one of the biggest entertainment stages in the world.

Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, also commented on the performance. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows…. This is bigger than the music.” His words highlighted how what was once controversial has now been embraced and celebrated on a massive scale.

Her appearance in Lamar’s halftime show added another layer to the ongoing tension between the Compton rapper and the Toronto superstar. Along with his performance of multiple diss tracks aimed at Drake, Lamar also took a shot at him over his legal battle with Universal Music Group regarding Not Like Us.

For Serena, the moment wasn’t about the drama it was about celebrating a full-circle moment in her career, bringing her signature dance to the world’s biggest stage.
