On Friday, Sean diddy combs performed during the homecoming festivities held at Howard University. However, he had more to give than simply his musical talents. The music and entertainment tycoon gave the Historically Black College or University a million dollars.
According to media reports, Combs appeared at Howard’s annual Yardfest and sang a mashup of his most successful songs.
After his performance, Combs gave a cheque for one million dollars to the institution and delivered it to the president of the school, Dr. Ben Vinson III.
Vinson claimed that “His gift will have a profound impact on our students, paving the way for future leaders,” and he referred to the donor as “He.” We consider it a great privilege to have Sean Combs as a member of the Bison family.
Combs said that it is necessary to “protect and uphold” the principles that are held by historically Black universities.
“This donation to Howard is not just a financial contribution; it is also a reaffirmation of our commitment to a cultural institution that has touched the lives of countless people,” Combs remarked in reference to the donation.
“It’s about making sure that historically black colleges and universities continue to get the support that they justly deserve,”
According to Complex, the founder of Bad Boy Records received his education in business at Howard University, which he attended.
Despite the fact that he left school to begin his job as a record executive at Uptown Records, Howard University awarded him an honorary doctorate in humanities in 2014. He obtained this degree in 2014.
Combs’ contribution fulfills his promise to provide money to HBCUs, which he made during his acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 BET Awards.
At that time, he made a commitment to contribute $1 million to both Howard University and Jackson State University (also known as JSU). Earlier in this year, Combs gave the contribution to Jackson State University and the school’s football team at halftime of a school football game.
Combs remarked in an Instagram post of his interview with ESPN on the gift that “it is my honor and my responsibility to support the HBCUs.”
ESPN had asked him about the donation. “They should be congratulated for the effort that they are doing! I was taught by my grandmother to plant my roots firmly into the soil of my community, and I want to carry on her legacy in this way.
