Rick Ross Explains His Beef with Drake on Nightcap Summer Sessions

Rick Ross opens up about his recent feud with Drake, detailing his motivations and the aftermath of their social media exchanges.

Rick Ross recently shed light on his ongoing feud with Drake during an appearance on “Nightcap Summer Sessions” with Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco. The Miami rapper’s decision to engage in the public spat with the Toronto superstar has intrigued fans, and Ross’s comments provide some clarity on the situation.

In his conversation, Ross addressed why he chose to dive into the drama last spring. Sharpe inquired about Ross’s relationship with Drake, given their history of collaborations. Ross responded candidly, clarifying that his involvement in the beef was not driven by any deep-seated conspiracy or personal vendetta.

“I’mma be honest: On some rap sh–, it was no conspiracies,” Ross said.

The line in question, “What the f— is this, a 20-v-1,” from Drake’s track, sparked Ross’s decision to retaliate. Ross explained his reaction was simply a matter of jumping into the fray and having some fun. “Rozay name was said… I’mma jump off the porch. That’s what I do. I’mma jump off the porch and I’mma have some fun and that’s what I did. I had some fun,” he said.

This beef began with Drake’s subtle shots at Ross, leading to Ross firing back with his own diss track, “Champagne Moments.” The response was swift, as Ross released the track just hours after Drake’s diss. The social media back-and-forth continued for weeks, with both artists exchanging barbs and trolling each other.

The conflict escalated further when Ross was attacked in Vancouver. The incident occurred at the Ignite Music Festival when Ross’s DJ played “Not Like Us” as he was heading back to his dressing room. This attack was reportedly linked to the ongoing tension between the two rappers.

Drake reignited the feud in one of his recent songs, “No Face,” where he rapped, “N—as got lit off the features I skated on/ I gotta know, I gotta know, how you get lit off the n—a you hatin’ on?” and “This is the moment I know they been prayin’ on… Try knock The Boy off, but f— it, I’m stayin’ on.” These lines continued the public back-and-forth and kept the feud alive.

When asked by Sharpe about how he decides whether to respond to critics, Ross explained his philosophy. “Is it something to gain for you? Somebody wake up and hate on Shay Shay, hate on Ocho, I mean… Let’s sit back, because not responding is a response when you a boss,” he said. This approach reflects Ross’s view that responding to every slight may not always be necessary or beneficial.

The Nightcap Summer Sessions interview provided a deeper look into the dynamics of the feud and Ross’s motivations. His comments suggest that while the beef with Drake was partly for fun and part of the competitive nature of rap, it also reflects his broader strategy of managing public disputes.

As the feud continues to simmer, fans are left wondering if there will be further exchanges between the two artists or if they will eventually put their differences aside. For now, Rick Ross’s explanation offers a glimpse into the motivations behind his actions and the nature of his conflict with Drake.
