Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger has officially been sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended following her ongoing DUI case. The 61-year-old reality star appeared in Montgomery County Circuit Court on February 26, dressed in all black with her husban, Ray Huger, by her side. Along with her sentence, she will serve five years of probation and has 30 days to appeal or 90 days to request reconsideration.
As she was taken into custody, Huger reassured her husband, telling him, “You will be alright” and “God’s got you,” according to a source.
Huger was arrested in March 2024 after crashing her vehicle into a street sign just three miles from her home. Bodycam footage from the arrest showed a visibly intoxicated Huger struggling to maintain balance and slurring her words. The reality star made bizarre references invoking everyone from Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen to Abraham Lincoln, while admitting to having consumed a couple of beers.
She was charged with multiple offenses, including DUI, DWI reckless and negligent driving, failure to control vehicle speed and driving with a suspended registration. Prosecutors also noted that Huger failed to update her address with the DMV within 30 days.
Despite the sentencing, Huger’s legal team, led by attorney David Martella, plans to explore all options for appeal. Martella described the trial as a wakeup call for Huger, highlighting her deep embarrassment and commitment to making changes. Since completing a 28-day treatment program, she has reportedly been actively participating in Alcoholics Anonymous.
While Huger’s sentence marks a significant chapter in her legal battle, her future remains uncertain. Will she successfully appeal the case, or will this moment truly be a turning point? Either way, the Grand Dame of Potomac is facing one of the toughest challenges of her life.
