Producer Gordo Says Drake Is ‘Happier’ Since Kendrick Lamar Beef: It's Really Weird

Producer Gordo Says Drake Is ‘Happier’ Since Kendrick Lamar Beef: It’s Really Weird . Throughout the spring, a fierce lyrical battle erupted between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, trading a series of diss tracks that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The back-and-forth began when Kendrick threw jabs at Drake on “Like That,” a track from Future and Metro Boomin’s album “We Don’t Trust You”. In response, Drake released “Push Ups” and the now-removed “Taylor Made Freestyle,” provoking Kendrick to retaliate with “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.” Drake didn’t back down, firing back with “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6,” but Kendrick seemingly ended the feud (for now) with the powerful tracks “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us.”

Despite the heated exchanges, Gordo, a close friend of Drake’s, noted that the rapper has never been “happier.” Gordo has observed Drake’s positive demeanor firsthand, mentioning that they’ve spent more time together during this period. “Ever since all this has happened, I’ve seen him happier,” Gordo shared. “It’s really weird. He’s pretty jolly… The internet makes it seem like he’s all sad, but that’s just a bad photo from a bad camera. In reality, he’s been happy and chilling.”

In a conversation with Complex this summer, Gordo clarified that he isn’t directly involved in the beef. However, he acknowledged that the disses directed at Drake have made them more aware of the “snakes” in their circle. According to Gordo, their bond has strengthened amid the controversy, even as they worked on Gordo’s upcoming debut album under his new alias, Diamante.

The 15-track album, which is set to release on Friday, July 26, features house music with Drake’s collaboration on the track “Sideways.” This project marks another significant milestone in Gordo and Drake’s friendship, which dates back to when Gordo snuck into one of Drake’s concerts.

“I remember sneaking into his concert when I was younger,” Gordo reminisced.

“I was always friends with people connected to him, like his tour managers, so I’d see him occasionally, take a photo here and there. Over time, we became really close.”

Gordo is confident that fans of “Honestly, Nevermind”, Drake’s 2022 dance album on which they first collaborated, will enjoy his new album. “If you liked “Honestly, Nevermind”, you’re going to like my album,” he assured. The album includes a fresh track with Drake, adding to Gordo’s validation in today’s house music scene after retiring his former moniker, Carnage.

Reflecting on the challenges that have come with the publicized beef, Gordo noted, “There are a lot of snakes out there, people waiting for the opportunity to say something. When you cut the grass, you see the snakes. We saw a lot of that, and that’s just how it is. That’s how life is. I deal with it every day. He deals with it. Everyone deals with it. We just have to keep pushing and create distance.”

Gordo’s journey and his friendship with Drake have weathered many storms, but the recent events have only strengthened their bond. As they continue to navigate the music industry and their personal lives, their resilience and camaraderie remain unwavering. The release of Gordo’s new album, fueled by their collaboration, is a testament to their enduring partnership and shared passion for music.
