The letter initiative, which gained support from prominent figures like Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, as well as Representatives Seth Moulton, Lori Trahan, and Stephen Lynch, highlights the severe repercussions of Cuba’s presence on the SSOT list. The imposed harsh sanctions further exacerbate shortages of essential resources, including food and medicine.

While the Obama administration had taken steps to ease restrictions in 2015, the subsequent Trump administration not only reversed these measures but also imposed additional sanctions.
