Just a month after Cardi B filed for divorce from her husband Offset, the former couple reunited to celebrate their son Wave’s third birthday. The celebration took place at the American Dream water park in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on September 1, with Cardi sharing details of the “last-minute party” on her Instagram.
Cardi B, who is currently pregnant, flaunted her growing baby bump in a casual crop top paired with baggy jeans. She completed her look with pink hair and a fuzzy white hat with ears, posing for family photos alongside Offset, their children Wave and Kulture and Offset’s other children from previous relationships: Jordan Cephus (14), Kody Cephus (9), and Kalea Cephus (9). The family appeared united at the SpongeBob-themed event, capturing a rare moment of togetherness despite their ongoing separation.
Even though the couple filed for divorce on August 1, they seemed to maintain a friendly rapport during the celebration. They documented the day on their Instagram Stories, showing both of them participating in the festivities. In one clip, Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, danced with their toddler Wave, who sported a flashy chain necklace with a large, bedazzled wave pendant. The family sang “Happy Birthday” to Wave as he blew out the candles on a four-tier, transportation-themed cake.
However, there were a few hiccups along the way. Cardi, in a candid moment shared on her Instagram Story, admitted to forgetting to save the leftovers from the lavish catering. With her mom away on vacation and unable to attend, Cardi lamented,
“This is why we need our moms, right? I’m not the adult I think I am. I want my mommy! Mommy, come back to me. I miss you.”
The couple’s divorce proceedings are ongoing, and Cardi has requested primary custody of their children, including the baby on the way, as well as child support from Offset. A representative for Cardi clarified that the decision to split was not based on any single incident but rather a culmination of issues over time. “This has been a long time coming,” the rep told E! News on August 1.
In the midst of the separation, Cardi has continued to share glimpses of her pregnancy journey. She recently posted the first sonogram of their future child online, responding to a fan who noticed a resemblance to baby Wave in the image. “Me too,” Cardi agreed.
Cardi and Offset’s relationship has been a rollercoaster from the beginning. The pair secretly tied the knot on September 20, 2017, in an intimate ceremony with just a few family members present.
“We found someone to marry us, and she did, just the two of us and my cousin,”
Cardi later revealed. The public only learned about the marriage months later, after Offset famously proposed to Cardi on stage with an 8-carat diamond ring.
Their romance had its highs, like the fairytale baby shower for their daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, born on July 10, 2018. “It was a special moment for Offset and Cardi, and you could tell there was a lot of love between them,” a source told to a News channel. But there were also lows, such as rumors of Offset’s infidelity that led to several public breakups and reconciliations.
After announcing their split in December 2018, Cardi admitted, “I guess we grew out of love, but we’re not together anymore. It might take time to get a divorce, but I’ll always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father.”
Despite their ups and downs, the couple continued to try to work on their relationship, with Cardi explaining they were “testing the space.” But ultimately, Cardi filed for divorce on July 31, 2024, after seven years of marriage.
As they continue to navigate their co-parenting journey, fans are left to wonder what the future holds for Cardi B and Offset. Will this reunion mark a new chapter of reconciliation, or is it a final farewell for the once-beloved couple? Only time will tell.
