Captain Michael Miller of the Akron Police Department released a statement in which he mentioned an investigation by the state and a decision by a grand jury in Ohio not to prosecute any officers in connection with the fatal shooting of Walker in June of 2022.
As a direct result of this turn of events, he said that “all eight officers are back on full-time, active duty.”
Miller said that the department’s internal investigation into the event is now undergoing its final legal review and that it is expected that the findings will be made public at the end of November. The inquiry was conducted by the department after the incident occurred.
Bobby DiCello, an attorney for the Walker family, said to WKYC-TV that the family is “saddened by the way in which they continue to be ignored” by the city of Akron. DiCello is representing the Walker family.
According to him, the leadership of the city has “never once reached out to discuss the employment of the eight officers or explain why the officers are being reinstated.” The attorney for the Walker family said that the family is “saddened by the way in which they continue to be ignored” by the city of Akron. This statement was made by the attorney for the Walker family.
According to the police, officials sought to pull over Walker’s car for minor equipment violations; however, he refused to stop, and then forty seconds into the pursuit, he fired a shot from the vehicle. The police claimed that authorities tried to pull over Walker’s automobile for minor equipment infractions.
Attorney General Dave Yost of Ohio said that the investigation that was carried out by the state revealed that Walker then jumped out of his moving vehicle while it was still rolling, raced away from the police, and defied their demands to stop and show their hands.
Yost stated that this information was obtained as a result of the investigation that was carried out by the state. Yost said that some of the police officers had first attempted to stop Walker by using Tasers, but he was able to reach down near his belt and raise his hand as the policemen were pursuing him.
