Snoop Dogg & Pharrell Carry Olympic Torches in Final Stretch of the 2024 Relay

Snoop Dogg & Pharrell Carry Olympic Torches in Final Stretch of the 2024 Relay . Before the 2024 Paris Olympics even began, Snoop Dogg had already cemented his place as a standout figure. Not only is the legendary West Coast rapper providing on-the-ground coverage for NBC, but he also had the prestigious honor of being one of the torch bearers traversing the “City of Lights” leading up to the Opening Ceremony on July 26.

A brief video clip captured the moment when Snoop, standing near the Stade de France stadium, prepared to pass the iconic torch to a member of the relay team. The short footage quickly went viral, with fans enthusiastically pointing out that the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” artist seemed to subtly incorporate some slick footwork, prompting cries of “Let me see the Crip walk” from the crowd.

One excited TikTok user exclaimed, “Did he Crip walk that torch? YES! This has been the best week of my LIFE!! USA! USA!” Another fan echoed the sentiment, stating, “We need him to Crip walk it the entire way.”

On Twitter, a fan tweeted, “Snoop Dog out here representing the West Coast and making history as the first person to Crip-walk with the Olympic Torch. Love to see it & can’t wait for more of his hilarious top-notch Olympic Sports commentary!!!”

The streets of Paris buzzed with energy as Snoop Dogg carried the torch, with onlookers cheering and waving, urging him to Crip walk. Snoop himself commented on the honor, telling the Associated Press,

“I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this. I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism.

I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”

Later, Pharrell took over as the final torchbearer, carrying the flame to the top of the Basilica of Saint-Denis. French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi and actress Laëtitia Casta had the honor of passing the torch to Pharrell, who then entrusted it to the Keeper of the Flame for storage in the official lantern ahead of the opening ceremonies.

Snoop Dogg and Pharrell join a prestigious list of musicians who have carried the Olympic torch. Recently, BTS’ Jin participated in the relay, following in the footsteps of past torchbearers like John Legend, Olivia Newton-John, Will.i.am, Loretta Lynn, Lance Bass, and Mel C.

The Olympic Opening Ceremony, set to begin at 1:30 p.m. ET Friday, will take place on the Seine.

The Crip walk, a dance move popularized by the Crips gang in Los Angeles during the 1970s, spells out C-R-I-P. Though Snoop Dogg isn’t an official member of the gang, his upbringing in Long Beach and associations have kept him connected to the street fraternity. At 52, Snoop wore the traditional white tracksuit of the torchbearers but added his unique flair with a pair of gold sneakers.

Social media was ablaze with jokes about Snoop’s infamous love for marijuana, with many quipping that the torch looked like a rolled blunt. One commenter humorously noted, “Couldn’t have picked a better person to carry the joint, I mean torch.”

Snoop’s humorous commentary didn’t end there. During an equestrian event, he praised a horse’s galloping, comparing it to a Crip walk. “Oh, the horse Crip walking, you see that cuh? You see that? On the set. That’s gangsta as a motherf—er…This horse is off the chains. I gotta get this motherf—ker in a video,” he joked, leaving his co-commentator Kevin Hart in stitches.

While “The UnderDoggs” star has yet to feature the horse in a music video, fans are eagerly anticipating another year of Snoop’s side-splitting Olympic commentary.
