On Wednesday, February 26, PARTYNEXTDOOR sparked controversy after teasing an unreleased song during an Instagram Live session where he appeared to take direct shots at fellow Toronto artist Tory Lanez. As the track played, Party made his stance clear saying, “I’m not y’all n—as friend. What are you talkin’ about, bro? Stop saying my name.”
The lyrics in the snippet seemed to criticize Lanez’s career with Party rapping, “F—k what Tory Lanez say, he knows the B, I’m runnin’ it.” He continued with bold claims, stating, “I did everything he did, he’s just a running man … drama man … I’m the daddy, let me slap you, OK.”
The song also appeared to address Tory Lanez’s recent legal troubles, particularly his conviction in the Megan Thee Stallion case. In another line, Party accused Lanez of mimicking his sound rapping, “You said I sound like Young Thug you know you sound like me.” He added “Life is short he lawyer’s cheap The people that love me, they love me Would’ve been back in the streets by Monday.”
However, just a few hours after previewing the track Party had a change of heart. Taking to his Instagram Story, he admitted that releasing the snippet was a mistake.
“I was told about what you said without hearing your video for myself,” he explained. “You didn’t say anything that I wouldn’t say myself. Now that I’ve seen it, I was wrong. The city is stronger together.”
Party was referring to a video posted by Tory Lanez on February 19 in which the incarcerated rapper praised his fellow Toronto artists. In a recorded phone call from behind bars, Lanez mentioned how Party Drake and The Weeknd’s latest projects had motivated him to start working on a new album. “PARTYNEXTDOOR showed his best work of 2025, Drake showed his best work of 2025,” Lanez said. “The Weeknd showed his best work of 2025, now it’s time for me to come out.”
Fans were left puzzled by Party’s initial diss, especially considering Drake has publicly supported Lanez, even calling for his freedom during a Christmas giveaway with Adin Ross.
