In a recent interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed frustration with the Democratic Party, claiming it has abandoned him and the working-class people he represents. He revealed that his political views no longer align with the party, emphasizing that it was the Democrats who had left him, not the other way around.Adams, who has faced increasing pressure over his stance on various issues, including the migrant crisis in New York, asserted,
“People often say, ‘You don’t sound like a Democrat, and you seem to have left the party.’ No, the party left me, and it left working-class people.”
He made these remarks in a preview clip posted on X, ahead of the full interview scheduled for broadcast on Carlson’s network at 6 p.m.The mayor shared his belief that his outspoken position on the migrant crisis had led to retribution from the Democratic Party. He recalled a conversation with President Joe Biden, where he was told to “be a good Democrat” after requesting more federal assistance to handle the situation.
Adams explained that New York City had been grappling with an influx of migrants, including individuals linked to violent gangs from Venezuela, who were contributing to rising crime in the city. Adams lamented that his efforts to seek more support had been met with indifference, adding that he feels he is “at the end of the line.”
In addition to his critiques of the Democratic Party, Adams defended a private meeting he held with former President Donald Trump, highlighting his duty as mayor of the nation’s largest city to engage with the sitting president. “I’m not going to be warring with the president,” he said. “I’m going to be working with the president.”
He also made it clear that his administration would cooperate with Trump’s agenda on immigration and other critical issues.
