The police’s role in the tragic incident where a Mississippi woman’s son lost his life. In March, a mother reported her kid missing. For months, police concealed the truth from her.
Bettersten Wade’s hunt for her adult son ended when she found that an officer had ran him over and buried him in a pauper’s field without notifying her.
It’s insane to have people lie to you, particularly when they seem to be helping you. That is exactly what occurred between Bettersten Wade and the Jackson Police Department in Mississippi. Here’s what happened.
Wade got into a fight with her 37-year-old son, Dexter Wade, in March. As a consequence, he left the house and went to see a friend. I can sympathize as someone who has had numerous intense disagreements with my parents.
The trouble is that Dexter never came home after more than a week, which concerned Bettersten beyond understanding. So she did what most people would do: she contacted local authorities and reported him missing. But that wasn’t something she wanted to do at first. According to accounts, Bettersten’s brother died in 2022 after being slammed by a Jackson police officer.
Bettersten had not heard anything about her son’s location for more than 7 months, or 172 days. She assumed, as any loving mother would, that she would never hear of her son’s fate. According to NBC News, she would often phone the Jackson Police Department seeking information, but the main detective would tell her there were no leads.
If the Jackson Police Department actually did not know where her kid was, this would be acceptable. The issue is that they did. They have known since the night Dexter went “missing.”
With the assistance of a coroner’s investigator, court records, public papers, and interviews with Dexter’s relatives, it was revealed that on the night Dexter left his mother, he was hit by an off-duty Jackson police officer driving an SUV on the interstate on the night Dexter left his mother.
Despite knowing Dexter’s identity and who his next of kin was, authorities did not notify Bettersten and left his remains in the county morgue for months. Dexter’s bones were interred at a correctional farm with other unclaimed dead after his body went unclaimed, without informing his mother.
The primary investigator had been telling Bettersten for months that there were no leads. However, once that investigator departed and a new one took over, they discovered the truth within a few weeks.
Dexter Wade, 37, was slain by an off-duty police officer less than a mile from his mother’s home on March 5.
A corporal who reported the collision to police was uninjured. No field sobriety tests were given to him since he was not suspected of intoxication. He had no driving violations. A fatal accident was determined.
Dexter’s skull was seriously damaged. A toxicology analysis found PCP and methamphetamine in Dexter’s blood.
Bettersten, her sister, daughter, and a close friend visited her son’s burial earlier this month.
In a Bettersten interview, “Before they ever put him in the ground, they had the opportunity to come to my doorstep and say, ‘Ms. Wade, we’re getting ready to bury your son.'”
“I had to buy him back from the state!” remarked her. I paid $250 for his physical rights.”
