Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has vowed to keep the city a “safe haven” for illegal immigrants, rejecting federal immigration enforcement efforts. Speaking at a town hall with Rep. Ilhan Omar, Frey reassured undocumented individuals that they would be protected under city policies.

“I want all of you just to know exactly where we are as far as our neighbors go, Minneapolis will continue to be a safe haven for undocumented immigrants,” Frey said.

Frey has previously stated that the city’s “separation ordinance” prevents local police from asking about immigration status or arresting individuals solely for being in the country illegally. He emphasized that Minneapolis welcomes all, regardless of background. For more updates check our Youtube channel.

His comments have drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers, who argue that his policies jeopardize public safety. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer condemned Frey’s stance, urging him to prioritize law-abiding citizens.

“Mayor Frey should stop standing guard for criminal illegal aliens and start protecting the people of his city,” Emmer stated.

Republican officials have cited recent arrests of undocumented individuals involved in criminal activity, including a known al-Shabaab terrorist and child sex offenders. They argue that sanctuary policies create security risks.

Despite the criticism, Frey remains committed to shielding illegal immigrants from deportation. His stance reflects broader national divisions on immigration, as Democratic-led cities push back against federal enforcement while Republicans demand stricter border policies.

As the debate over sanctuary cities continues, Minneapolis remains at the center of the controversy, with Frey standing firm on his commitment to undocumented immigrants.
