National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has taken responsibility for a group chat leak that exposed military strike discussions to a journalist. Waltz said he created the chat but did not know how the journalist was added. He called the situation “embarrassing” but denied that classified information was shared.

“I take full responsibility. I built the group,” Waltz told. “We’ve got the best technical minds looking at how this happened.”

The chat was discovered by Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg, who was mistakenly added to the encrypted Signal conversation. He claims to have seen details of U.S. missile strikes in Yemen before they happened. Goldberg did not publish classified content but said the messages included military targets and timelines. President Trump dismissed the incident, calling it a “glitch” with no impact on operations. Intelligence officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe, insist no classified details were compromised.

Despite those claims, Democrats are demanding an investigation. Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair Mark Warner called it an example of “grossly incompetent national security strategy” under Trump. Rep. Pat Ryan, a former Army officer, said the breach raises serious concerns.

The chat included messages from Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Some messages suggested Trump wanted Europe to pay for U.S. military actions in the region.

As questions continue, Waltz says his team is working to determine how the error occurred. He has even asked Elon Musk for help in reviewing the breach. Lawmakers from both parties remain skeptical, and the controversy is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
