Megan Thee Stallion Outrages Onika With Internet-Breaking Bars; Nicki Minaj’s “Hiss”-sterically Hits Back

Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj’s dispute intensified with the ‘Jump up on your good foot’ lyric.

Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj transitioned from “Hot Girl Summer” to hissing back and forth.

Megan Thee Stallion debuted her new track “Hiss” on Friday, detailing the three-time Grammy Award winner’s tribulations and successes over the last five years.

Though the rapper has topped the charts with her collaborations with Cardi B, Beyoncé, and others, she has endured public attention and trauma since fellow rapper Tory Lanez shot the Houston native in July 2020. Lanez, actual name Daystar Peterson, was sentenced to ten years in jail for the shooting in August.

In her earlier hit, “Cobra,” about life after the shooting, Megan Thee Stallion speaks up about her mental health difficulties, rapping, “I’m sittin’ in a dark room thinking, probably why I always end up drinking; (Yes), I’m very depressed.”

In her first song of the year, “Hiss,” she raps that people “don’t be mad at Megan” but “mad at Megan’s Law.” The bars seem to relate to Minaj, who is married to documented sex offender Kenneth Petty.

Megan’s statute, a federal statute, mandates registered sex offenders to give personal information to local law enforcement organizations. Petty was sentenced to probation and home detention for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

“We appreciate and respect the Court’s decision granting the defense’s request for probation and home confinement,” Petty’s lawyers, Michael Goldstein and Hagop Kuyumjian, told the media.

Minaj responded to the “Savage” rapper’s criticism by going on Instagram Live immediately after the release of “Hiss” to preview a single of her own.

“She’s like 6 feet; I call her big foot,” Minaj raps before stating that someone “fell off; I said get up on your good foot.” The verse allegedly refers to the 2020 shooting in which Lanez was suspected of shooting Megan in the feet.

“You have three Grammys, and you have to learn how to rap on the beat while also being comfortable in the music,” Minaj added before ridiculing Megan Thee Stallion’s rap flow.

Minaj also liked a few tweets from followers directed at her former colleague. Megan Thee Stallion answered with an Instagram story in which she was bent over, left hand covering her mouth, and seemed to be smiling at Minaj’s reaction to “Hiss.”

Social media users take issue with Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj.

By Friday morning, many social media users had taken sides in the conflict.

“‘Who wanna play wit Nicki’ oh she don’t play…she gets down omg Nicki,” one person remarked on X, referencing lyrics from Minaj’s smash song “FTCU.”

“Big Foot in the clubs would go crazy,” one person said, which Minaj subsequently shared. The rapper also referenced a message on X that said, “@NICKIMINAJ post a pic of ur feet,” and included a picture of her feet.

Fans defended Megan Thee Stallion on X after the exchange of comments. “Nicki Minaj was a new sound for many millennial girls growing up.” To have matured, been a woman, and seen her legacy vanish because she decided to marry a predator, allow rapists and abusers, and insult a lady who was shot? What a shame. “An embarrassment,” one user wrote on X.

“Just shows how much not having a Grammy burns her up inside,” one person remarked, citing a video of Minaj disparaging Megan Thee Stallion’s flow.
