One month after pleading not guilty to charges of DUI cocaine possession and resisting arrest Marcus Jordan the son of NBA legend Michael Jordan has admitted in court that he needs help addressing substance abuse issues.
Jordan, 34, was taken into custody on February 4 in Orange County Florida following a concerning incident where officers found his vehicle stranded on train tracks. According to reports the vehicle’s lights were on and authorities were alerted that a train was expected to pass through the area within ten minutes. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene noted that Jordan exhibited signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. A search of his pockets revealed a small plastic bag containing a white substance later confirmed to be cocaine.
In newly obtained court documents Jordan’s legal team has petitioned for him to enter a substance abuse program. For more updates check our Youtube channel.
The filing states that Jordan “acknowledges that he needs help to overcome the challenges of his alcohol substance use and is amenable to treatment.”
His attorneys argue that he is an ideal candidate for a Pre-Trial Substance Abuse Education and Treatment Intervention Program due to his commitment to rehabilitation.
The filing further emphasizes Jordan’s determination to change stating, “Mr. Jordan is dedicated to becoming a responsible drug free and productive member of the community. His participation in the Pre Trial Substance Abuse Education and Treatment Intervention Program will not only benefit him personally but also serve the community by reducing the likelihood of future offenses.”
As the case moves forward, Jordan’s request for treatment rather than immediate prosecution could play a crucial role in determining his legal outcome. His willingness to seek help may not only aid his personal recovery but also influence how the court handles his case.
