A man on Instagram who calls himself Love Benji has claimed that he is the “hidden son” of rap legend LL Cool J.
In a post captioned, “I can’t wait to finally meet you Pops,” Love Benji claims that LL Cool has blocked his number and also blocked him from all social media and this video is the only way for him to reach out to his dad.
Two-times Grammy Award Winner, James Todd Smith, known professionally as LL Cool J is one of the earliest rappers to find mainstream commercial success and fame, alongside eminent names like Beastie Boys and Run-DMC. His debut album Radio came out in 1985, which were followed by more commercially successfully albums from 1987 to 1995 (Bigger and Deffer, Walking with a Panther, and Mr Smith).
Love Benji says in the video, “I feel like it should be public; now I need to just get this off my chest. I want to give thanks to you too, man. James Todd Smith, That’s what I know him as, [my] father [and] great man. But many of you probably know him as LL Cool J.”
The man thanked his “father” for sending him money occasionally ($200) but he added that he yearned for his “blessing.” Benji said that he had tried to visit his father many times but has been disallowed.
“I really didn’t want to take it here and have the blogs blow it up or nothing like that…Since he’s blocking my number, I haven’t heard much from him. I feel like this is how I’ll be about to reach out to him. That’s my truth. Let me know, Dad,” he said.
