Malinda wants Kristina Karamo removed

Malinda wants Kristina Karamo removed from the Michigan Republican State Committee. Malinda Pego, who once ran with Kristina Karamo to lead the party, is now part of a group that wants to remove Karamo.

Reports are, “Pego sent an email saying she supports having a meeting to talk about taking out Karamo from her role as the head of the Michigan Republican state committee.”

Pego’s email didn’t say Karamo’s name, but it might help the group that wants Karamo out. This shows there could be trouble at the top of Karamo’s group because Pego hadn’t said anything publicly before about wanting Karamo out, even though others were already saying things against the leader of the Michigan Republican Party.

Pego talked about decisions and actions causing a lot of party members to agree that they should look at whether Karamo should stay as the leader. She said it’s important for the people who are part of the state committee to carefully check all the information and make decisions that match what the people who voted for them and all Republican voters in Michigan want.

Karamo, who was once a teacher and ran to be the state’s secretary of state, was liked by the grassroots part of the Michigan Republican Party. But she’s had a tough time getting traditional donors, the people who usually give money to the party. In November 2022, Karamo started her run to be the leader of the Michigan GOP with Pego as her partner. At that time, they promised to make the party strong for freedom.

In Pego’s email on Friday, she talked about how the future success of the Michigan Republican Party in 2024 depends on everyone working together with common beliefs.

In a reply to Pego’s email, Phil O’Halloran, who supports Karamo and is part of the state committee, didn’t like what Pego said. He asked why she was causing problems at the very top of the party’s leaders and called her actions confusing and not good for unity.

In the fall, some people in the Michigan Republican Party started a petition to vote out Karamo, whom the voters picked as the leader in February. There are about 100 people in the state committee, and those against Karamo say they need half of them to sign the petition for a vote about whether she should still be the leader.

People trying to get rid of Karamo have been gathering names for a few weeks, and they say they’re close to having enough names for a vote. They want a meeting on Wednesday to talk about getting Karamo out, but she said she won’t agree to that meeting if it happens.

A report from the news got records from the party’s bank and found that by August, there was only $35,000 in the accounts. That’s way less than what the Michigan Republican Party usually has in the bank around the time of a big election.

Another report from a group of Republicans said the Michigan GOP was very close to running out of money because Karamo had trouble getting money, and the party still owed about $600,000.

In a message on Christmas, Karamo said she still feels hopeful about the party in 2024 when voters in Michigan will pick a new U.S. Senator and help choose the next president.

She asked other Republicans in Michigan to come together even if they disagree and said it’s an honor to be the leader of the Michigan
