The strongly written petition claims to have been submitted by a sacked employee who was “disgruntled” with their work after three weeks.
Ex-“disgruntled” worker and tour wardrobe designer for Lizzo has filed a lawsuit alleging harassment and discrimination, and Lizzo’s lawyers have moved to have the case dismissed.
Asserting that Asha Daniels’ September complaint was “meritless and salacious,” the 35-year-old “Juice” singer’s legal team filed a motion to have it dismissed from a Los Angeles court on Friday.
Lizzo’s lawyer said in records made available to the media that Daniels, 35, “failed to perform the work that she was assigned and, eventually, just played hooky and refused to show up for work.”
She was then let go for “abandoning her post” on the day of Lizzo’s Paris, France, show.
Daniels “is a New York resident who worked for a Delaware corporation in Europe,” therefore the designer “has alleged no nexus to California.” Lizzo’s lawyers want the lawsuit thrown out for these two grounds. The first is that it was filed in the incorrect area.
The motion is “another Hail Mary by Lizzo’s team to try to shift blame to the victims, as she has done to the three other plaintiffs who have sued her for similar allegations of harassment, disability discrimination, and retaliatory termination,” according to a statement obtained by the media from Los Angeles attorney Ron Zambrano, who is representing Daniels.
He also said, “Lizzo and her lawyers can continue trying to rationalize her illegal and wretched conduct but we remain committed to seeking justice for our clients and look forward to our day in court where Lizzo can explain her behavior in a public forum.” The statement was provided to the media and was sent by the media.
After the media requested comment, Lizzo’s legal team did not answer right away.
The singer Lizzo was sued by Daniels, who went on tour with her earlier this year, for allegedly forcing her staff to work in a “racist and sexualized” workplace despite Lizzo’s advocacy of body positivity and inclusivity.
In addition to additional claims that they made racist and fat-phobic statements and withheld medical treatment, the complaint was filed against the actress, her production business, her wardrobe manager Amanda Nomura, and her tour manager Carlina Gugliotta. This resulted in anxiety and PTSD, according to the lawsuit.
Living in a madhouse was how I felt. Daniels later told the journalists, “It was incredibly shocking.” “This Black woman was speaking to me on a large stage about loving oneself, caring for others, empathy, strength, and standing up for what’s right.” In every place, I saw constant harassment and bullying directed at me, the dancers, the backing singers, and my local team.
Daniels’ accusations were similar to one that was previously filed in August by Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, three of Lizzo’s former dancers who said they had experienced harassment on tour in the forms of sexual, racist, and religious abuse. Saying on social media that she was “not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days,” the “About Damn Time” singer refuted all of the accusations made against her.
Zambrano said in a statement on behalf of the plaintiff that “Lizzo is the boss so the buck stops with her.” Because of the sexualized and racially heated atmosphere she has fostered on her tours, her management team believes that she is endorsing the conduct, which keeps it going unchecked. Lizzo decides to partake in this repulsive and unlawful behavior even though she is aware of it.
Lizzo’s representative Stefan Friedman made the following statement to the media at the time: “As Lizzo gets a Humanitarian Award tonight from the Black Music Action Coalition for the incredible charitable work she has done to lift all people, an ambulance-chasing lawyer tries to sully this honor by recruiting someone to file a bogus, absurd publicity-stunt lawsuit who, wait for it, never actually met or even spoke with Lizzo.” As much attention as this deserves, we will give it. Not one.
