Whoopi Goldberg Urges Liz Cheney for a Third-Party Run to Stop Trump. In a recent episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg passionately called upon former GOP lawmaker Liz Cheney to consider running as a third-party candidate. The conversation revolved around concerns over the potential re-election of former President Trump and the impact it might have on the traditional Republican Party.
Goldberg, known for her outspoken views, proposed the idea of bringing together intelligent individuals from both sides of the political spectrum to form a new party. While she made it clear she wasn’t considering a run herself, Goldberg turned to Cheney, recognizing the differences in their political stances but highlighting a shared commitment to the country’s well-being.
Cheney, notable for her vocal criticism of Trump and her impeachment vote following the events of January 6, faced challenges within the Republican Party, ultimately being ousted in the primary.
Goldberg expressed deep concerns about the survival of the Republican Party as it has been traditionally known. She emphasized worries that a Trump re-election could pose a threat to future elections, asserting Trump’s alleged desire for extended power. Urging Cheney to consider running as a third-party candidate, Goldberg underscored the potential danger of Trump’s ambitions.
Addressing Cheney directly, Goldberg asked, “Would you ever consider being the conduit to that third party, because I don’t know if the Republican Party as we knew it will survive this?”
Expressing urgency, Goldberg added, “He will stop [elections], and he’s very clear about that. He wants to be a dictator for life. OK? So I wonder would you ever consider, please? Would you, please, consider being that person?”
Cheney responded by acknowledging the need for Americans to prioritize their country over political affiliations. She emphasized the importance of civil debates on policy and substance, expressing a desire to contribute to a political landscape where people can come together despite their differences.
When directly asked about running for president, Cheney left the possibility open, stating, “Oh, well, I haven’t — I’m not going to rule it out. I haven’t made a decision about that.” She emphasized the significance of the ongoing election cycle, urging voters to prioritize candidates who defend the Constitution, even if they belong to a different political party.
Cheney concluded, “Everybody has to go vote. Everybody has to go vote. And you’ve got to be willing to say, ‘Look, I’m not necessarily going to vote for the candidate who belongs to the party that I belong to, I’m going to find the candidate who I know I can trust to defend the Constitution.’ And that’s the only way ultimately we’re gonna defeat this.”
The exchange on “The View” reflects growing concerns among some public figures about the influence of former President Trump and the direction of the Republican Party. As political dynamics continue to evolve, the discussion highlights the call for alternative voices and a focus on candidates committed to upholding democratic principles.
