Lil Wayne Reacts to Being Ranked 7th Best Rapper of All-time

In a recent interview, Zane Lowe (Apple Music) asked Lil Wayne how he felt about being ranked 7th on the Billboard’s Top 50 Rappers of all time. “I don’t care about that ranking,” Wayne replied.

“Was the list including ALL Hip Hop, like before and after as well? I can deal with that… I will tell you that I am a muthaf___in’ one. Everybody whose names you named, they also know I’m number one. Go ask ’em. They know what it is.”

Owned by the Penske Media Corporations, Billboard Magazine —which cover music charts, news, events, and all-things related to music industry—released its ranking of the “50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” on February 8th, 2023.

The list which ranks Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter as the greatest rapper of all time sparked considerable controversy. Jay-Z is followed by Kendrick Lamar (2nd), Nas (3rd), Tupac (4th), Eminem (5th), and Biggie Smalls (6th). Lil Wayne who is 7th is followed Drake (8th), Snoop Dog (9th) and Nikki Minaj at 10th.

“Man, who the hell is before me?” Wayne asked Lowe. “Was the list including ALL Hip Hop, like before and after as well? I can deal with that… I will tell you that I am a muthaf___in’ one. Everybody whose names you named, they also know I’m number one. Go ask ’em. They know what it is.”

However, Lil Wayne had admitted in last November that Hov is greatest rapper of all-time in Marcellus Wiley’s More to it podcast.

“The greatest rapper of all time is Shawn ‘JAY-Z’ Carter. When you do this rapping thing, obviously like football, every sport is different. You play hockey, I’m sure they got something that they only know about. Something that they probably can’t explain, but only they know. That thing in rap, that we only know in rap, he has that. He’s the Tom Brady of that.”
